Nutriely has many features, and sometimes that makes it difficult to quickly show how it can solve your specific problem. The thing you are looking for might get lost among other features that are not that important to you.

So we had an idea: highlight interesting ways our app can be used in. This is the first article in that series — let’s call it User Stories.

When You Want to Track Everything but Calories

Imagine that you love the idea of nutrition tracking, but don’t want to track calories. Instead, you want to focus on nutrients — vitamins, minerals, macros, food quality — without seeing calorie counts everywhere.

You might be surprised, but this is actually a very common request. Calorie counting can feel like a chore, and for some people, it can even become obsessive. There are many valid reasons to dislike calorie counting, and for many users it’s a real problem.

At the same time, you still want nutrition insights. You still want to evaluate diet quality beyond just macros.

Why this is difficult in most apps

Whatever your reasoning, if you want to avoid tracking calories but still get meaningful nutrition insights, this is surprisingly hard in many apps.

Most popular apps focus primarily on calorie and macro tracking, so all functionality is built around those numbers. Without them, there are often very few insights left.

On top of that, many apps don’t even allow you to hide calories or macros from dashboards and statistics — they are always front and center.

Nutrition is more than energy

Our focus has always been that nutrition is more than energy alone. Nutriely lets you focus on vitamins, minerals, fiber, and other micronutrients that can tell you much more about your nutrition quality.

It was not our original intention to build a “hide calories” feature — but with Nutriely, this setup is easily achieved by adjusting your configuration.

There are only two changes needed to customize your dashboard around what matters to you.

1. Configure your nutrition targets

First, adjust your nutrition targets.

Go to Profile → Nutrient Targets, and set the target to 0 for any nutrient you want to hide.

Once the target is set to zero, that nutrient will automatically disappear from your main progress screen.

2. Set your diary dashboard

Next, go to Profile → Dashboard, and choose which nutrients appear in your daily rings.

You can select four main nutrients to show for each day. While this space is often used for energy and macros, it can be any nutrients you choose.

For example, in the setup shown below, we’ve configured the dashboard to track:

  • Salt
  • Iodine
  • Added sugars
  • Vitamin A

You can still view all other nutrients in detailed statistics, but they are no longer forced into your daily view. Tracking becomes focused on what you consider important.

Going deeper than numbers

Nutriely also lets you drill deeper into your data than most apps. Because it is an ingredient-based tracker, we can show:

  • which ingredients contribute to each nutrient,
  • where excesses or gaps are coming from,
  • not just final numbers, but why they look the way they do.

This makes it easier to make informed decisions and gradually improve nutrition quality.

And importantly: you don’t need to track every single day. Skipping days is fine — your data is still valuable and patterns still emerge.

What you gain by not tracking calories

Instead of obsessing over energy numbers, you can take your time and learn about the components that make up your diet:

  • Whether you are hitting recommended nutrient intakes
  • Which meals or foods drive shortfalls or excesses
  • Long-term habits that matter beyond calories

The ability to not track calories was not a feature we explicitly set out to build. But Nutriely is flexible by design, and we’re happy when users adapt it to their own needs.

Everyone’s nutrition goals are different — some focus on weight, others on quality. We’re proud to support both, without forcing you to care about things you don’t want to.

Happy tracking!
