Everything Nutrition

Estimate all the nutrients.

When you take a look at a food package you will often find only macros, and if you are lucky perhaps a few minerals or vitamins that manufacturers publish for their own marketing purposes. But what about all the other nutrition components?

With our application you can estimate the missing nutrition of packaged foods and use these values to see a more informed, data-driven picture of your nutrition.

See how to do it.

A short preview of our application in action. Simply input the ingredients and nutritional value found on the product’s packaging and see the math work for you.

How the algorithm works

In short - it is math combined with nutrition science.

We use a machine learning-based optimization algorithm to find the optimal ingredient combination and then estimate the nutrition values using the result.

It is sort of like solving a puzzle. We already have the main pieces figured out, and we also have the borders, now we just need to fill in the gaps using the shapes we already know.

Given accurate ingredients and macros the algorithm is great at finding the solution. However sometimes the data on the package is ambiguous, inaccurate, or doesn't state the processing of the ingredients. In those cases it is simply not possible to find the optimal solution. One of our goals is to improve the quality of nutrition data, and by inspecting the ingredients and macros we can do that.

We are continuously working to improve the accuracy of the data that we input, making sure to cover various aspects such as additives, processing effects on nutrition and others. With that said, our algorithm can only work as good as the data provided. So it is important that the targets are correct, and that we choose the right ingredients. At this point the feature is still experimental, so there will be cases where using it won't yield accurate results.
